Women United was started by a group of Siouxland women who plan on making a positive change in our community by addressing the root causes of issues they care about. They have identified their mission as:

Women United exists to provide financial support to organizations or groups that demonstrate the ability to enhance the quality of life for our Siouxland youth.

This group is comprised of women who reach beyond their current contribution to the United Way campaign and inspire change through their leadership.

• Direct their charitable contributions towards community issues that matter most to them. 
• Provide their time, talent and resources with other women to actively change the community for the better.
• Make a tangible difference with their contributions and see first hand the impact they can have by working together towards a common goal.

2008 Results

February 2008:  United Way’s Women United announced that over $55,000 will be awarded to two organizations to benefit Siouxland youth.  The Watchful Eye Foundation’s DeTour and Phoenix programs will receive $39,000 to support and assist at-risk teens involved in gang activity. Girls Inc. has been granted $16,250 to assist in the start up of Allies in Action a new program to help build healthy relationships between girls.

Allies in Action

On February 28th, 2007, $40,000 was awarded to “Brain Zone” a project implemented through the Boys Club, Mary Treglia Community House, and Girls Inc. These agencies will collaborate to provide specific skills and activities designed to help in brain development for children. Brain Zone activities have been proven to help improve children’s thought process which in turn improves their ability to succeed in school and in life.

On April 3rd, 2006, $40,000 was awarded to a new program of The Council on Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence (CSADV), called New Beginnings. The program provides non-traditional transitional housing for abused women and their children as they seek a brighter future and gain self-sufficiency.
